JUNIORS CLUB
Our Junior Club has grown steadily over the last few years and we anticipate this trend to continue due to the significant growth of numbers participating in the Auskick Clinics and the growing popularity of our game generally.

Round 7 - Supercats v Springwood Pumas
June 30th, 2008
Played 29th June @ Yeronga
We had a warm Sunday afternoon game at Yeronga against a bigger opposition. There was a gentle breeze which wafted the smell of sewerage across the field and almost managed to block out the smell of Macca's after shave. The 1st quarter was a burster with Kel picking up about 12 possessions , Boehme was also playing well in the middle, Pup was getting plenty of the ball and playing kick to kick with the opposition and James Dexter Manson kicked 2 goals after recovering from a Friday night dance session at the Wickham. Mick Liveri was leading well and getting plenty of the ball. Unfortunately he was kicking like an amputee with a right leg made of Jelly. 4 kicks , no goals and an average kicking distance of 11 metres. This would normally be Ok for Mick because he rarely leaves the goal square but his new found energy saw him get the ball outside of his kicking range ie. 11.1 metres. The defence was solid with Tim ,Gov Steve, BG, Benny and Chopper all doing well.
M'side 4 . 1 . 25 to 1 . 2 . 8 1st quarter and a great start.
The 2nd quarter was a lot more even. The ball was proving hard to pin point and there was a lot of scrappy play. Macca continued to do well in the ruck, but he still had more in him. We could still smell his aftershave but there were rumours he re-applied at quater time. With Rod and Glen Edwards running hard and having an influence on the game, Morningside got plenty of the ball but failed to really capitalise on the scoreboard. Burchy kicked his 3rd goal during the quarter but being the coach he made sure he had put himself on the slowest, oldest player leaving the more mobile defender to go on Dean. Hatchy led well this quarter but everyone got a touch of the Pups and thought we had a team of Aaron Sandilands up forward. Sven lost a slab for kicking the wrong way and Mick took his Jelly leg off and kicked the legal distance of 15 metres for a 6 pointer. Other good players included Captain Chameleon, Dean Wallington, Nathan and Thommo.
M'side 6 . 3 . 39 to 3 . 5 . 23 (2 goals 2 to 2 goals 3) at the main break.
The 3rd quarter, the premiership quarter was a burster. Although the ball continued to bounce untrue, our fitness shone through and we had a winning score on the board at 3 quarter time. Rocket Rod had to leave the field with what appeared to be a twisted sock (thumb). Timmy got out the Kleenex and some ice and Rod sat out the rest of the game on the sidelines. Burchy kicked his 4th and was immediately removed from the arena to think about the 4th quarter and perhaps getting 5. Boehme was superb helping out the defence and our defensive line was supreme, keeping the opposition scoreless. Steve was a standout with many 2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts. Dave W was a standout for getting in his customary 2 fights per game. He even had his pirate hat torn off in very Bruce Douell like fashion. This resulted in some slight sunburn as it took him 2 minutes to get it back on his noggin. The entire backline was brilliant.
M'side 10 . 7 . 67 to 3 . 5 . 23 ( 4 goals 4 to 0.0 ) going into the final term.
We started off the 4th quarter a bit tired which resulted in us kicking 4 behinds in the 1st 5 minutes. At least we had plenty of the play. Macca was on the bench and we sort of wished he re-applied at 3 quarter time but I guess he's used to his own smell. We managed only one goal for the quarter with Burchy failing to bag 5 and Jelly Leg eventually finishing with 2 goals 3, with one out of bounds and 2 not making the distance from 11.2 metres out.
Last Quarter 1 goal 4 to 1 goal 3 .
Final Score : Morningside Supercats 11 . 11 . 77 to Springwood Pumas 4 . 8 . 32 . Hard to dispute that scoreline .
Best: Kel, Boehme, Glen, Toohs, Burchy, Macca, The Backline, Wallington, Rachael for baby sitting Dave's offspring and Pup
Goals: Burch 4, James "Dexter Manson" Brazier 2, "Jelly Leg" Liveri 2, Thommo, Rod, Chris 1
Injuries: Little Jack Horner ( thumb) and Jelly Leg who went to pudding.
Footnote : Rod has a morgage on the Creswell H.T.F.U Award and James is pushing Damo hard for the number 22 .
Next match is against Pomona at Home on July 13 at a time to be confirmed.
