MATCH REPORT

2008 Round 3 - Supercats v Coolangatta

May 12th, 2008

Played on: 4th May

It was an early start on Sunday down to Coolangatta on a perfect Autumn SE Queensland morning. Some left early for breakfast amongst the waves and babes. Others left Brisbane just before game time, still getting their pants on just before the bounce!

The Supercats wore black arm band as a mark of respect for Hatch’s brother. Lots of Fijian kids to run water and do the goals as they were visiting Coolangatta for a camp. A packed bench with Jason and James Perejmibida trying to make the right moves. The Coolangatta team where fired up in the first quarter, but the Supercats responded well with great hard ball gets and good passing. Coach Burch mark strongly in the goal square to score a great goal. Then a big collision in the back line, big men down ouch! Dean Wallington broke his collar bone not giving up position on the ball, gutsy effort from the vice captain.

1st quarter Supercats 1.2 8 to Coolangatta 1.0 6

The second quarter started well with Larry, Brad and Guv working hard in the back line. The centres had Macca, two Steve’s (Boehme/Toohs) Rocket all going in hard. The running and class of the Coolangatta team showed through in a great quarter by the home team kicking 5.3 to zip. The running of Coolangatta was especially noticeable with their half backs running strongly down the middle open for the switch in play, this really cut us to pieces and left the backs with no hope.

1/2 time Supercats 1.2 8 to Coolangatta 6.3 39

At half time after a quick check of attire the players noted the we need to be more accountable in staying on our man and turn defender when they get the ball.

So in the third the tempo increased with Supercats more accountable and Macca marking around the ground. Damo and Tim moved the ball forward to Dean and the Big red Dragon. Ben (less his new wedding ring) did some great moves to hit Big Mick with a great mark and goal. Brag the Bandit took a low chest mark in a solid defensive performance. Guv, Adam and Tav helped to hold their forwards to only two goals.

¾ time Supercats 2.5 17 to 8.3 51

The last quarter started well with Chris Matthew’s brave at the ball risking his youthful appearance face in a head clash (old boilers!). He recovered to kick well to Dave Walker in the centre. Rocket Rod and Rowan combined well with Boehme who never stopped working. Hatch worked hard in the later part of the game at full forward.

Final Scores:

Supercats 5.5 35 to Coolangatta 13.4 82

Best: Macca, Toohs, Guv, Boehme, Chris Matthews, Rocket, Tim Greenaway.

Goals: I only know Burch kicked 1 and possibly Big Mick. Any others please forgive the author.

Injuries: Dean Wallington Broken Collar bone. Jumper took two days to come off, looks like a 4 weeks?
